know about Laser Hair Reduction!!

  • Unwanted hair has been traditionally removed by various techniques such as shaving, bleaching plucking, waxing, use of depilatories, electrolysis etc.
  • These were found to be slow, tedious, painful, inconvenient and resulted in poor long term efficacy
  • Only electrolysis offers permanent hair removal but is slow, tedious, operator-dependent and impractical for treating large number of hairs.
  • Consequently laser and light based technology for hair removal have been developed which offer rapid treatment of large areas with long lasting results.
  • Laser hair reduction (LHR) is the most efficient method of long term hair reduction currently available.
  • The technology has grown rapidly since the introduction of first approved system in 1995.
  • This technology though comparatively new, has generated great interest both among doctors and patients because of its ability to delay hair regrowth, to remove large areas of hair with less discomfort and its non invasive method.
  • Lasers cause “permanent hair reduction” rather than permanent hair removal`.
  • It is defined as a noticeable reduction in the number of terminal hairs after a given laser treatment, which is stable for a period of time longer than the complete growth cycle of hair follicles at a given body site.
  • Recently additional 6 months time is recommended which is the time taken for damaged follicles to recover from laser injury and re-enter a normal growth cycle
  • Laser treatment usually produce complete (zero regrowing hairs) but temporary hair loss for 1-3 months followed by partial but permanent hair loss.
  • There is noticeable reduction in number of growing hair and regrowing hairs are thinner and lighter in colour due to miniaturization of hair follicle.
